Building Ethiopia's aerospace future from the ground up.
The ESSS Amateur Rocketry Program (ESSS-ARP) is a national initiative designed to establish a structured, inclusive, and highly regulated platform for amateur rocketry in Ethiopia.
ESSS-ARP does not build or launch rockets itself. We serve as the foundational platform for independent teams, aerospace startups, and educational initiatives — providing legal frameworks, coordinating safety guidelines, and reviewing launch programs. We are the official liaison to government regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders, easing the administrative hurdles so that schools, clubs, and innovators can design, build, and launch their rockets safely and legally.
Regulated Safety
Strict adherence to the National Rocketry Safety Code, overseen by the NRC and aligned with Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority airspace clearances.
STEM Education
Hands-on learning in physics, mathematics, material science, and aerospace engineering for schools, universities, and community clubs.
Advocacy & Liaison
A unified voice for startups, clubs, and independent teams — bridging the gap between innovators and government regulators.
A progressive learning framework.
A learning framework helping participants develop the necessary safety awareness and technical knowledge before advancing to higher-power rockets.
Water & Chemical
Beginner — safe, low-cost introduction to rocket design. Non-combustion only.
Ideal for primary and secondary schools, science clubs, and first-time builders.
Low-Power
Intermediate — combustion physics with approved solid/sugar fuels (under 10 Ns).
Follow organizer requirements and appropriately supervised launches.
Mid-Power
Advanced — university teams and certified facilitators (10–160 Ns).
Document preparation and flight results for manual review.
High-Power
Professional / research — composite & hybrid rockets above 160 Ns.
Requires special government permits, advanced training, and designated test zones.
Safety is non-negotiable.
ESSS-ARP operates under the strict oversight of the National Rocketry Committee (NRC) to ensure compliance with Ethiopian aviation laws, public safety regulations, and environmental standards. All sanctioned launches adhere to mandated clear zones, altitude limits, and approved motor guidelines.
- Designated safe zones with motor-based clearance radii
- Combustion launches require a certified RSO or Prefect on site
- Strict propellant transport, handling & storage protocols
- ECAA-aligned altitude ceilings for all motor classes
- 24-hour incident reporting to the NRC Safety Coordinator
